A hidden gem in Altopascio. If you are passing through, you must seek out this restaurant! Best burger and chips we have ever had anywhere and the owners are a young, interesting and very kind couple. Food is absolutely delicious and high quality. Would be easy to miss since it’s not on the main strip of the town. The best food we’ve had in Italy so far. Highly recommend!

Finding this to be a local favorite. We went for early dinner and Stephano graciously sat the four of us and spent time to explain local wines. They also have quite a beer selection. We all ordered burgers and wow! The meat is outstanding!! Great looking and great tasting!! Photos were taken after we dug in... Highly recommend!! Staff was English speaking and treated us very well!

What an excellent spot! In a sea of pasta and pizza that is Italian cuisine, it was fantastic to find incredible burgers. What burgers in Italy? Yup, and amazing!! This place rocks, and I highly recommend it. Guaranteed you will leave saying “wow,” as everyone in our group did. Great artisanal beer selection as well. Fabulous courtyard location.

We went on a road trip to Calabria from the UK. We stumbled on La Magione del Tau when as we stayed in a nearby hotel en route back. Our initial thought was "they only do burgers". Don't let that deter you. Turned out to be the best restaurant meal we had the whole holiday. We've never had higher quality burgers or chips. The couple who run it were amazing. Friendly, spoke English well, until they realised we spoke Italian too 😂. And the setting in that piazza on a beautiful August evening we will never forget. Can't recommend highly enough.

Fantastic experience for us twelve pilgrims. Burgers and beer and a fantastic staff, who even called their friends to drive us to the place we’re staying tonight so we didn’t have to walk another hour. Definitely recommend.

My husband and I are walking the via Francigena and stopped for the night at Altopascia. We happened upon La Magione del Tau, and were welcomed warmly by the proprietors. The wine and the food were delicious. It’s a small cozy place with good vibes, good energy. We found out that the original path of the via Francigena went right past their front door. Perhaps that’s part of why this place is so special. The owners are great ambassadors for Altopascia. A wonderful restaurant. Highly recommend!
